Cloquet High School pep squad car wash, 12-3 p.m., Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Ave., Cloquet. Freewill donations.

Free community meal, 4-5 p.m., Good Hope Church, 55 Armory Road, Cloquet. Chicken Caesar sandwiches, pasta salad, fruit and dessert served at an in-person meal for anyone in need sponsored by Community of Hope 2:16. A light meal will also be available for takeout.

Arrowhead Bookmobile, 10:30-11 a.m. at Northwood United Methodist Church, Esko; 11:30-noon at Silver Brook Town Hall, Wrenshall; 1:30-2:15 p.m. on Main Street in Kettle River.

Seniors potluck, 12, Wrenshall City Hall. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Justice Center tours, 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., 1780 Justice Center Drive, Carlton. Members of the public are invited to tour the new Carlton County Justice Center off of County Road 61 south of Minnesota Highway 210.

Between the Lines Library Book Club, 3:30 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. The August book is "The Wolf's Trail: An Ojibwe Story, Told by Wolves" by Thomas Peaco*ck. New members welcome.

"A Respectful Conversation About This Election," 6-8:30 p.m. Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 612 12th St., Cloquet. The Minnesota Council of Churches hosts an event open to all aimed at boosting a community's "conflict management capacity" and to "enhance discipleship as people become better listeners."

Sam Armacost presents about canoe trip, 6-7 p.m., Cloquet Public Library. Armacost will recount her 103-journey in a canoe on the Mississippi River.

Willow Brae performs, 12 p.m. at Carlton Public Library and 3 p.m. at Moose Lake Public Library. Andrea Stern and Laura MacKenzie perform traditional Irish and Scottish music and dance tunes on an array of seldom-heard instruments while sharing about the history and culture of Ireland and Scotland.

Bingo and ice cream sundaes, 12:30 p.m., Barnum Senior Area Center, 3794 Main St. Everyone welcome.

Labor Day celebration, 11 a.m. Cloquet Avenue, Cloquet. Parade (line up at 10:30 a.m.) and food trucks.

Scarecrow contest, 6 p.m. Cromwell Pavillion. Create a scarecrow for a contest with child and adult divisions. Set up your entry any time over the weekend or Monday before the 6 p.m. judging. Call 218-644-3544 to register.

Crownwell Harvest Festival, first night includes a steak fry from 4-7 p.m. in the Cromwell Park Pavilion, and a quilt and meat raffle.

Pancake breakfast, 7:30-10:30 a.m., Blackhoof Fire Hall, 3148 County Road 5, Barnum. The Blackhoof Firefighters Relief Association holds its annual pancake fundraiser. Freewill donations accepted.

Cromwell Harvest Festival, most events are in the Cromwell Park Pavilion unless otherwise noted and include: pancake breakfast with freewill donation from 8:30-10:30 a.m., Alzheimer's walk at 9 a.m., craft and food vendors open 9-3, pet immunization clinic 9-12 at City Hall, inflatables and kid games start at 10, candy toss at 11, car show opens at noon, chicken pooping contest from 11-4, pie social from 11-4, beer garden from 11-6, kiddie parade at noon, Over the Hill Rangers perform from 1-4 and Scott Ostby performs 5-8 in the Muni parking lot, and bingo at 5 p.m. There also are youth and adult bean bag tournaments and a volleyball tournament (registration required).

Esko Sports Alliance golf fundraiser, 11 a.m., Cloquet Country Club. $500 for a team of four or five. More info and registration at

Cromwell Harvest Festival, concludes at the Cromwell Park Pavilion with a 9:30 a.m. community worship service, the Riverside Drifters horse show at noon and a lunch potluck at the Muni.

Growing microgreens class, 2-3:30 p.m., Carlton County Transportation Building, 1630 County Road 61, Carlton. The University of Minnesota Extension class teaches beginners how to grow microgreens (small, densely grown vegetable and herb seedlings).
